OnePlus' ex-founder Carl Pei's startup 'Nothing' is set to debut its first product in June this year. Named Ear 1, the true wireless earbuds can be seen as a combination of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality. The Ear 1 will be oriented to users who enjoy listening to music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The debut will also make way for other exciting products in varied categories, including smart electronics expected to arrive later this year.
"Our mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future that looks, lives, and feels like nothing. It (Ear 1) is the starting point that will define the artistry, confidence, and craftsmanship that will carry our products and services for years to come," Carl Pei, the Co-Founder, and CEO, said in a blogpost.
Pei also explained the reason for debuting the brand with a TWS earbud. "We believe the earphones market was begging for differentiation, space where we can elevate design and deliver value from day one. Additionally, as an area of hyper-growth, the earphones market will provide a fertile backdrop as we strengthen our capabilities and prepare to enter new product categories."
Nothing is a consumer tech startup that aims to make differentiating products in a flood of similarly designed consumer products. Recently, the company raised $22 million just at the announcement. The investors include Casey Neistat (YouTube personality and Beme co-founder), Kevin Lin(Twitch co-founder), Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, Kunal Shah (Founder of CRED), among many others.
