The UK has ordered all British telecommunications companies not to install Huawei 5G kit after September 2021. The British Government has further said that all Huawei equipment must be removed by the end of 2027.
“I am setting out a clear path for the complete removal of high risk vendors from our 5G networks,” digital minister Oliver Dowden said in a statement. “This will be done through new and unprecedented powers to identify and ban telecoms equipment which poses a threat to our national security.”
The UK has already banned the buying of new Huawei 5G kit after the end of this year. Further, the government has announced a brand new strategy to diversify the 5G supply chain. It has approximately made a 250 million pound investment in this strategy, including the establishment of research facilities.
Huawei earlier said UK’s decision on the company and its services was disappointing. Last week, China too criticized the UK for taking a step towards excluding it from the 5G rollout. Firms could be fined upto 100,000 pounds if found to be circumnavigating the ban.
