Telecom skyscraper engulfed in massive flame in Changsha, China

The state media reported that an enormous fire has engulfed a telecom skyscraper in the Chinese city of Changsha.

The footage posted on social media showed massive flames racing up the sides of a 42-storey building and the office workers were rushed to evacuate the building. The massive structure billowed out in thick clouds of black smoke. This building is a regional office of Chinese Telecom. The Chinese authorities said that the flames have been extinguished and no casualties had been reported.

Firefighters were aiming jets of water at the blackened facade of the 218m tall building in a race to put the fire out, as per the social media images. At one point the entire side of the skyscraper was engulfed in the flame. Another video on social media showed hundreds of people trying to flee the scene as flaming debris rained down from the upper floor of the skyscraper.

The Chinese media said that the skyscraper was completed in 2000 and it is near a major ring road in the city of Changsha. Changsha is the 10million person capital of Hunan province in south-central China.
