CIO Bulletin
As we reported earlier, India banned TikTok a week ago which left users with no alternative. There are no such popular platforms for sharing 15 seconds long music video. Facebook had "Lasso" in select markets which has been called off now. Youtube too is working on including a section for sharing 15-second TikTok style videos.
Now Instagram “Reels” which was launched in Brazil, in November last year is being reportedly tested in India. Few users have got the in-app section called “Reels”. Considering Instagram’s large active user base in India, it can be the next big thing. The creators of Tiktok who have no option for now are looking for reliable alternatives.
The option to capture a ‘Reel’ will come alongside Boomerang and Zoom. The app also adds the feature to either add the audio file of their choice or choose one from its library. Facebook has recently teamed up with Bollywood music label “Saregama” to offer access to its library on Instagram and Facebook stories. Saregama’s vast library is already available for users; other music labels may follow soon.
There is no official launch date for now, but since the feature is in a testing phase and users are looking for alternatives, Instagram may make it available to all very soon.
