AT&T’s Smart Limits service will soon be replaced by its new app called the ‘Secure Family’. The new and upgraded parental control software from AT&T will include features like location tracking, time limits, and content filtering.
Location tracking feature is more accurate; it allows you to locate a family member on an interactive map. Parents can set up the app to receive arrival and departure alerts when kids enter or leave locations like home or school. It also notifies the parent of the child’s phone battery charge.
Besides location tracking, parents are given the option to prevent purchases from the App Store or Google Play; filter or block apps and online content based on age-appropriate settings, as well as set a schedule to limit a child’s internet access. Also, it’s important to note that some of these features will only be enabled after installing a companion app that needs to be paired with AT&T Secure Family.
The features that will be going away with the Smart Limits service are the number blocking and reminders to use Wi-Fi. The new app can be downloaded to the device you want to monitor, and luckily, you can monitor up to 10 lines for $7.99 a month.
Verizon’s recently upgraded ‘Smart Family’ app even offers pretty much the same features. It starts at $4.99 a month for a base version and up to $9.99 a month for all features including location tracking and alerts.
