Microsoft is going to add telemetry components into its operating system. The July 2019 Security-only patch update for Windows 7 includes an unexpected telemetry component. The latest Security-only update is named as July 9, 2019—KB4507456.
“With the July 2019-07 Security Only Quality Update KB4507456, Microsoft has slipped this functionality into a security-only patch without any warning, thus adding the Compatibility Appraiser and its scheduled tasks, telemetry to the update. The package details for KB4507456 says it replaces KB2952664 (among other updates),” says a report from the Ed Bott.
The security-only update for Windows 7 includes a Compatibility Appraiser element which is KB2952664. Its function is to check whether a system can be updated to Windows 10. Microsoft included the KB2952664 functionality also known as the Compatibility Appraiser in the Security Quality Monthly Rollups for Windows 7 in September 2018.
According to reports, KB4507456, the security-only update seems to have included various other components of the Windows 7 operating system. Installing this security-only update replaces the KB2952664, the Compatibility Appraiser.
It is possible that Microsoft is pushing its Windows 7 users to migrate to Windows 10 for security reasons. However, Microsoft promises that it would not run another Get Windows 10 campaign on user devices.
