Xiaomi announced its latest transparent TV in the online press event on its 10th anniversary. It will be the first transparent TV to enter mass production. Earlier, LG and Panasonic had shown their prototypes for transparent OLED TVs but they never entered mass production.
Now, Xiaomi has come up with Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition, which will be soon available to consumers in China. When in “OFF” mode, the screen shows up as a transparent sheet of glass while in “ON” mode it turns into a beautiful floating screen.
The MI TV LUX has a 55-inch transparent OLED panel. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz and also offers 120Hz MEMC motion interpolation. It comes with a MediaTek 9650 chipset with Xiaomi's AI Master Smart Engine image processing that offers over 20 optimization algorithms and dedicated optimization for 5 major use scenarios. The pixel response time is just 1ms while the contrast ratio is 150,000:1.
The Transparent glass panel is 5.77 mm thick which rests on a circular base that has all the ports. Also, the TV cannot be wall-mounted. There is also the support for always-on display mode to show time and other useful widgets. The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition runs on a custom-designed version of MIUI for TV. The UI takes advantage of the transparent display. The MI TV LUX has been priced at RMB 49,999, which is about US$7200. It will first go on sale in China on August 16 at 10:00.
