The Chinese Short video format app TikTok has been gaining a lot of popularity in the last few years. Owing to its exponential growth its app downloads surpassed Facebook. And now it has dethroned WhatsApp to become the most downloaded app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
TikTok has hit 1.5 billion total downloads across the Apple App Store and Google play store.
According to recent data from Sensor Tower, Douyin and TikTok were downloaded 104 million times on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in January 2020 alone. For the unaware, TikTok and Douyin both are the same app but run on different servers by the parent company ByteDance. Douyin is the Chinese version, while internationally it is known as TikTok.
According to the report, TikTok has surpassed WhatsApp as the world’s most downloaded app for January 2020. The figure shows a massive 46% increase over January last year. It also shows a 27% increase when compared to the total downloads of last month. The statistics reveal the top three markets for TikTok downloads during this period are India, Brazil and the United States. However, the total download number could go higher as it doesn’t include downloads from third-party Android platforms in China and other regions. Google Play store doesn’t work in China.
TikTok’s revenue is on the rise and the trends show it will continue to grow exponentially, hitting new records.
