Netflix is looking forward to increasing its user base in India. While the all-new “Mobile plan” was first launched in India, it became popular and Netflix decided to expand this plan to few other countries as well.
The streaming media is gaining momentum in India and other OTT platforms are catching up soon but the contents are very limited. Netflix which has a plethora of movies, series, and originals for users to get glued to has just made its new “Mobile+” plan available in India.
This can be called an upgrade to the “Mobile plan” as it only offers Standard Definition (480p) videos to be streamed to only one phone at a time. The new “Mobile+” plan has an upgrade, which allows users to stream in HD on phones, tablets, or computers. However only one device can stream at a time, it still restricts streaming on TV.
“After several months of testing, we’ve decided to roll out a lower-priced mobile-screen plan in India to complement our existing plans. We believe this plan will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV (average revenue per user) is low,” Netflix said in a statement.
The Mobile+ Plan is already available for users in India but in the testing phase for now. If the user response is good Netflix may make this permanent and expand to other markets as well.
