Mediatek has been launching a lot of new 5G processors recently. While it was not the first to launch 5G, it has been giving tough completion to Qualcomm in innovation and a wider range of affordable 5G chipsets. After launching its Flagship Dimensity 1000 and 1000+, Mediatek has also released midrange chipsets like the Dimesity 800 and 700 series. There are rumors of MediaTek releasing its entry-level, most affordable Dimensity 600 series with 5G.
Earlier this year, MediaTek had announced its midranger Dimensity 800 in January with single sim 5G support, later it released its iteration, Dimesity 820 in March, and now it is back with the latest iteration of its midrange 5G chipset which supports dual-sim 5G and Voice over New Radio (VoNR). It also supports 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA).
Based on the 7-nm process, it now has two big cores of A-76 clocked at 2.4GHz and six little A-55 cores at 2.0Ghz. It has the latest 120Hz refresh rate support on Full HD screen and also HDR 10+ support. The internal memory support has been increased for a faster UFS 2.2 storage. The RAM support remains the same, LPDDR4X up to 12GB.
In the camera department, it supports camera sensors up to 64MP. It can shoot videos up to 4k at 30fps. Apart from EIS for video stabilization, OEMs can also take advantage of MediaTek's APU to provide camera features like AI-enhanced Bokeh mode and more.
The Dimensity 800U also comes with MediaTek's UltraSave technology that adjusts its power consumption according to the type of load. With these 5G enabled SoCs, MediaTek is seriously focusing on bringing 5G to the masses at affordable prices. We can expect to see devices having Dimesity 800U within a few months.
