Android Flagships have been seeing a year-on-year increase in price range. The trend follows from Snapdragon 865 which was significantly costlier than Snapdragon 855. This made companies like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme etc surge their price compared to its predecessor.
According to IT Home, a Korean publication, the Snapdragon 875 will be even more expensive.Supposedly, the Snapdragon 875 will see a huge 50% increase in price compared to the current Snapdragon 865. The chip itself is expected to cost around US$130, up from around US$85 for previous generation. However, OEMS have to buy the whole chipset from Qualcomm to provide full functionality, like the 5G Modem. The total cost of the Snapdragon 875 chipsetgoes around US$250 compared to the Snapdragon 865's US$160.
This has pushed Several OEM’s to increase their price of Flagships. Google on the other hand is using the premium midranger Snapdragon 765 for its premium next flagship, Pixel 5.
The Snapdragon 875 will have a Super-Core Cortex-X1 processor that offers 30% more performance than the Cortex-A77. This super-core will be combined with three Cortex-A78 cores and four efficiency cores in a 1+3+4 triple cluster.
The Snapdragon 875 has already entered production at mass scale in TSMC. It is based on 5nm process node and comes with Snapdragon X60 5G modem.
