Technological developments have advanced every sector of the economy. However, when it comes to construction, many industry experts believe that it’s lagging behind. But if we simply take a look around, we're surrounded by modern constructions. Over the past 60 years, it is no doubt that productivity has doubled and tripled in most industries. However, those in the field of construction believe that build trade has remained relatively flat- especially when compared with 18 other industries- and comes last in technological spending.
Even though construction is considered as one of the oldest and biggest industries in the world, industry productivity is still low. But that’s not the landscape anymore. We have with us PlanGrid, a company that’s revolutionizing technological adaptations in construction. Founded by former construction engineers, PlanGrid has earned its name as popular construction productivity software. Working with PlanGrid gives you seamless file synchronization and real-time updates over Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
The company has set its mission to “create software that will revolutionize a $10+ trillion industry.” The team of construction engineers witnessed how their industry was being dragged down with litigation, broken communication, and surmounting paperwork. They realized that all of this was getting in the way of actually constructing buildings. Ralph Gootee, Ryan Sutton-Gee, Antoine Hersen, and Kenny Stone, along with Tracy Young got together and established PlanGrid in 2012. They had one aim- to lift the industry ‘out of the stone ages.’ They achieved this by converging high-speed internet, cloud, and mobile.
However, the journey that PlanGrid has gone through is an interesting one. It all started when the first iPad was launched back in 2010. This was very important because it was the founding stone of first-gen construction field-ready mobile technology and also the inception of the idea for PlanGrid. The founders had a clear objective: “to make technology so intuitive and impactful that people in construction want to use it.”
There’s been no turning back ever since. Recognized as the first Construction Productivity Software, PlanGrid has more than a million projects around the world. Working with PlanGrid allows owners and contractors in heavy civil, commercial, and other industries to have seamless communication throughout the project lifecycle. With PlanGrid, you can mark up your plans with notes and photos, right at the field and also share it in real-time. You can also hyperlink and tap into any contract documents- even from your blueprints. Plus, you can also handover reports easily and mark an issue directly on the plans to resolve punchlists faster.
Solutions- right in your pocket
When you work with PlanGrid, you can tap into a lot of features. For instance, when it comes to documents, you have smart sheets that enable automation of manual data entry or your administrative tasks. There are also project docs- which help to find the right doc at your fingerprint. When it comes to submittals, you can effectively manage submittals through every step of the approval process while also automatically uploading the spec book in just minutes.
With PlanGrid, you can keep track of your progress with markups, which can be shared and measured from anywhere. Punch lists and tasks enables the user to track and resolve items with issue stamps and also track every work bringing about visibility across the construction lifecycle. PlanGrid also offers features like sheet comparing- where the user can overlay different versions of the same sheet (or two unrelated sheets). They can also take capture progress with photos and videos with 360° photos on your project.
Quality above all
Behind this unique and revolutionary platform is a dedicated team who put quality over everything else. Everyone here works hard, care about quality, and treats each other well. A diverse and talented group of people here, PlanGrid has people with a wide variety of backgrounds. At the firm, you’ll certainly bump into engineers who have worked for large tech giants like Facebook, Google, and Amazon. And of course, you’ll also find construction experts from firms like Skanska and Rudolph & Sletten.
“I feel lucky to work for PlanGrid because I get to sell a beautiful product that makes a huge difference in the lives of our customers. We save them incredible amounts of time and frustration, help them build more efficiently, and get them home to their families!” says Elyse, a member of the sales team at PlanGrid.
