The shock, pain, and fear we feel when our loved one falls gravely sick are quite traumatic. Many times, families are unprepared for unexpected healthcare accidents and how to manage treatment or therapies for their loved ones at home. Likewise, physicians lack the tools to monitor treatment outside their clinics or hospitals to prevent adverse patient conditions. Seremedi understood all of this. In fact, Seremedi was established after a first-hand account of how patients and families are unprepared to manage treatment and therapies at home when a loved one falls suddenly and gravely ill.
As a digital health company, Seremedi delivers connected virtual health solutions that monitor and activate patient adherence. The company launched its beta at MD Anderson as there was a need for surgeons to have a window into how their cancer patients were recovering for post-surgery procedures. Around this time, it was becoming evident that the future of the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) was uncertain. Seremedi took the wise route and began seeking partnerships with transitional and home care services supporting pre-& post discharge and Hospital@Home models.
There’s still more to know about the humanitarian offerings from Seremedi. We have with us the co-founder and CEO- Kim Bond Evans to tell us more about her company.
Let’s start off with the difficult challenges you’ve faced while establishing Seremedi. Was there any instance where you were under pressure? How did you deal with it?
Major challenges and responsibilities are navigating the land mines and policy uncertainties in the healthcare industry. Once the momentum of the ACA slowed down and the pressure was off of healthcare providers to move forward with value-based care models, we had to pivot from providers who were focused on increasing bed capacity to organizations who were trying to keep people out of the hospital when possible for as long as possible by keeping heads in their own beds.
Tell us about the products and services Seremedi offers.
Seremedi offers a connected care platform that supports pre & post- discharge transitional care and Hospital@Home models. Our Hospital@Home service is based on the innovative care model developed by the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Public Health. Our service is a hybrid of traditional home care services, devices and digital technology. Offering an integrated human touch + automated service for onsite and remote home care. The service enables timely & convenient remote monitoring and virtual patient check-ins. Additionally, Seremedi guides patients through its automated outcomes reporting solution from their mobile devices easily and quickly promoting adherence and accurate, actionable just in time information to their healthcare team enabling healthier outcomes at lower costs. Behind all our solutions, the idea is to equip healthcare workers in the field with mobile devices and digital solutions that include the CareScriptions® application. This also includes Bluetooth devices such as a weight scale, blood pressure cuffs, and various other essentials. If the patient requires additional healthcare services, they will be referred to a clinic or hospital only when necessary- keeping costs down. Between visits, the clinical team, patients, and their families can communicate and share information via phone, text, or virtual consultations. This model has been proven to reduce cost and risks by Johns Hopkins Hospital.
That’s very interesting. In this competitive market, how does Seremedi stand out?
The configurability of our connected care platform, seamless integration of human touch, and automation create a competitive advantage setting a new standard of care over solutions using technology only or only traditional home care models.
Tell us about the firm’s accomplishment you are most proud of.
I knew we wanted to ensure physicians had timely and accurate information about the health status of their patients. I also knew we wanted to provide easy convenient access to care however I had no idea of all the obstacles the industry had in preventing those services to go to market. This answer may seem odd to some! The accomplishment I’m most proud of is being able to survive as a start-up with all the obstacles in the uncertain and tumultuous health IT industry.
How would you define the success of Seremedi?
Our success will be achieved incrementally. Our first successful milestone was when we launched at MD Anderson. The second successful milestone was achieving post revenue status. The next milestone we look forward to is achieving mass adoption and hyper-growth status with 30+ customers and $3-6 million in revenue.

Kim Bond Evans has more than 15 years of senior management experience in operations, mergers, and acquisitions. Previously, Kim served as the President of Blue Lance and the CEO of Secure Vantage Technology, Inc. where she was responsible for leading product directions and business strategies. She has served as entrepreneur-in-residence for the Houston Technology Center and a member of the founding teams for the HATCHpitch competition and Impact Pediatric Health for innovative start-ups at SXSW.
Kim serves as Chairperson for Energizing Health, a non-profit committed to healthcare access and health justice for underserved communities, a judge at the distinguished Rice Business Plan competition; a coach for fast track early stage companies at SXSW Interactive. Kim is committed to the wellbeing of her family and communities. She serves on several boards and organizations. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University.
