WhatsApp has rolled out a new update to its WhatsApp Business app. The update adds a new shopping button that is available worldwide, including India. It will help users chatting on the WhatsApp Business account to checkout available products directly from chat. The tool will also help business owners to list out their catalog in an easy way.
Previously, the business catalog was hidden inside the menus. "Now, when a person sees the shopping button, which looks like a storefront icon, they will immediately know the business has a catalog so they can browse products and start a conversation about an item they see with just one tap," the company said in a statement.According to a recent survey, 76% of adults in India agree that they are more likely to purchase from a company with whom they can contact directly.
Interestingly, the update comes just after WhatsApp got the approval for rolling out its payment service in India. The UPI-based WhatsApp payment service is exclusive to India, that offers bank to bank transfer within a few clicks right from the app.
"In the future, we'll make it possible to add items to a cart and check out, all within WhatsApp," the company said last month. However, Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, has plans to monetize this later once the payment service becomes full-fledged, as it will start charging companies using WhatsApp for business.
